Sam Royko is a founding member of The Royko Group. Before founding the firm, Sam worked at The Quinlan Law Firm, LLC, and Robinson Curley P.C. as a litigation attorney. Sam represented individual clients and corporations in state and federal court, arbitration, and mediation. Sam has experience representing clients in complex commercial litigation disputes involving breach of contract, class actions, securities, employment, and entertainment.

Sam has also provided support to corporations and small businesses in an advisory capacity. In this role, Sam, through his firm, has worked as an outside general counsel, finding legal solutions for businesses before the need for litigation arises. Additionally, Sam’s prior experience in communications and public relations, from his time as a member of Kurth Lampe Worldwide, a strategic communications firm, has further enhanced his ability to manage the complex legal concerns of businesses and corporations while assisting in protecting the businesses best interests and brand.

Sam has also worked tirelessly to develop The Royko Group as one of the leading entertainment firms in Chicago. Sam has provided entertainment clients with advising from inception to distribution, providing legal services and advising including but not limited to contract drafting, film financing, and tax incentives for clients working in film, television, and the music industry. Sam and The Royko Group have also provided outside counsel services to production and distribution companies, assisting in managing all their generic and entertainment law needs.

Sam is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Sam clerked for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and was a Legal Extern for Judge Lorna E. Propes, a Cook County Circuit Court Judge. Sam was certified as a mediator with the Center for Conflict Resolution and oversaw numerous mediations while completing a visiting student year at Northwestern University School of Law.
While an undergrad at DePaul University, Sam was an intern for the Chicago Innocence Project, the AmLaw 200 firm Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, and Schreck, and for United States Senator and Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin in Washington, D.C.

The son of Pulitzer Prize-winning Chicago columnist Mike Royko, Sam was inspired to pursue a career in law after watching and reading about his dad’s zeal in fighting for the little guy. He sought his legal degree to advocate for others who believe they have been wronged and to make a positive impact in his community. Sam brings the same dedication and passion to his work in commercial, employment, and entertainment matters.

  • Represented a Las Vegas real estate developer and drafted an appeal for the Illinois appellate court for a legal insurance claim valued at over $25 million.
  • Represented a real estate developer as to a $200 million corporate transaction in the state of Arizona.
  • Assisted in a high-profile malicious prosecution case against the City of Chicago.
  • Provided outside counsel work for an Arizona corporation with revenues exceeding $30 million per year.
