You’re Invited to The Royko Group’s Launch Party
The Royko Group invites you to join us for our firm launch party at the Billy Goat Tavern on Thursday October 28th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Please join us at one of Chicago’s most beloved institutions to celebrate the launch of our firm and the addition of Hal ‘Corky’ Kessler as the head of the entertainment law division at The Royko Group.
We are delighted by the wealth of experience that Corky brings to The Royko Group. Over the last 34 years, Corky has had a huge impact on the entertainment industry. After starting his legal career as a criminal prosecutor, Corky was offered the opportunity to produce the Broadway play Driving Miss Daisy. Since that production, Corky has provided legal services for and/or produced over twenty-five films, represented several authors, and negotiated publishing deals with several major publishers, including Random House and Doubleday. He was also instrumental in the creation of
new laws and federal tax incentives regarding film and television funding, which led to the implementation of Section 181 and Section 199 of the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004. In recognition of his contributions, he has been voted best entertainment lawyer and executive producer in the United States.
In addition to practicing law, Corky teaches entertainment law as an adjunct professor at his Ohio State University, Northwestern Law School, and the Beijing Film Academy. Corky has also created a syllabus and taught a similar entertainment course at Columbia College Chicago. He is a frequent
speaker at the Sundance, Cannes, and Toronto Film Festivals. We are thrilled to have Corky join the team and excited to add entertainment law as one of our areas of practice. Corky currently has 14 projects in development. Some of his projects that you might recognize are:
